“Rooms by the Sea” was the first Hopper painting i ever came across and it was love at first sight. After feeling an emotional connection to this piece, I remember rushing to research him and his work. To no surprise at all, I quickly became an admirer of his paintings and his view on everyday life because it seemed to me that i was not the only one who found a kick in the beauty and simplicity of sunlight on the side of a house and shadows all around, and in the familiarity with the unfamiliar. I found comfort, relief, and warmth in his paintings that depicted loneliness, isolation, and gentle eeriness. He was also fond of lighthouses.
